SIT arrests 6 Dera Sacha Sauda followers in Bargari sacrilege case

The Punjab police's special investigation team (SIT) on Sunday arrested six Dera Sacha Sauda followers in connection with the 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration case at Bargari village.

The team of SIT led by IPS SPS Parmar has achieved a major success for the first time since the CBI handed over the case to Punjab police. Second member of the team is Rajinder Singh Sohal, AIG, Counter-Intelligence, Punjab.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Sukhjinder Singh alias Sunny, Baljit Singh, resident of Sikha Wala in Faridkot, Shakti Singh, resident of Daggo Romana in Faridkot, Ranjit singh alias Bhola and Nishan Singh, both residents of Kotkapura.

The suspects will be produced before a local court on Monday, said the police.

The SIT investigation has revealed that the accused had scattered the torn pages of a “bir” (copy of Guru Granth Sahib), which was stolen from the Burj Jawahar Singh Wala gurdwara on October 12, 2015, at Bargari. The derogatory posters were also pasted by them near the Bargari gurdwara, claimed the SIT.
