Bihar Train accident: 4 dead as North east express derails; ex-gratia of 4 lakh announced by Bihar CM

National Desk: North east express train derailed and claimed lives of at least 4 people and left 100 people injured. The tragic accident took place late Wednesday night near Raghunathpur station in Buxar, Bihar. The train, which commenced its journey from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi, was on its way to Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam and met a tragic incident in Bihar. Passengers injured have been taken to AIIMS Patna.

12506 North East Express with 23 coaches had left Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi at 7:40 am on Wednesday on a journey of about 33 hours to go to Kamakhya. Its is reported that in the tragic incident, nearly all bogies were derailed whereas two bogies completely overturned from the track. NDRF reached the spot and with the help of local administration, NDRF carried out rescue operation.

The deceased have been identified as Usha Bhandari and her eight-year-old daughter Amrita Kumari, residents of Sadian village in Tinsukia district of Assam. Apart from her daughter and husband, Usha was going from Delhi to Assam with another girl. The third deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Zaid, a resident of Sapateya Vishnupur in Kishanganj district of Bihar. They were going from Delhi to Kishanganj. The fourth deceased has not been identified. Apart from the dead, 100 people have been injured, all of them are being treated in Buxar, Bhojpur and Patna AIIMS.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 Lakh each to families of the people who died after 21 coaches of the North East Express train were derailed in Buxar last night. Control rooms have been setup and helpline numbers have been issued.
